Self-Application

  1. Write your favorite quote from the provided list.
“The tradgedy of life is what dies inside a man while he still lives.”

  1. Write your feelings about family history work.

Family history work is a form of missionary work for those that are dead. It’s kind of related to faith because we don’t see the people be baptized but we can feel that ordinance. We are told that it is a service and seeking out a real answer only comes from the Holy Ghost. I personally felt a call to do family history work. It was about 5 months ago. I had a strong feeling I needed to serve a mission, but I won’t do that until I graduate college. But then as I prayed, fasted, read, and pondered I found that I needed to do family history work on my dad’s side. It completely makes sense that the Lord said I am ready to do this work. It is my time to do this work.

  1. Define in writing a character trait that you desire to work on in order to realize more success in your future family history efforts.

Persistance. I am a patient person but I need help being strong in doing family history work, and not settling. I’m usually a hard worker but I am also a perfectionist. If I don’t get it the results that I personally strive to achieve for, then I get frustrated and my work isn’t as good. I won’t be as thorough in my searches or as smart in what I search for.

  1. Write specific goals you feel to set for yourself concerning your future work in family history and temple service. Short- Index once a week.
Medium-Go home and scan all our family photos and upload them online.
Long-term-Look through all my family’s old documents and add them online.

  1. Identify challenges that may derail your goals.

All our families documents are kind of spread out and I will have to communicate with my family about taking those documents so that I can record them online, and possibly find other family names or events. My sister might not let me take that information because she was given a majority of the documents. She lives about 45 minutes away from my home, so I can’t drive there often.

The family history center back home is 45 minutes away, so if I ever need to use the family history paid websites I will have to organize my time and resources in order to schedule in going to the family history center.

There are a lot of distractions when I go home. My family, a job, and the fun activities spent with everyone. I also have to help take care of the house and drive younger siblings to certain events. There will be work required of me and when I’m tired I won’t want to do family history work, but I need to persist, have faith, and receive strength from the Lord.
